Dr. Larry J. Moray
Dr. Larry J. Moray brings a unique perspective to his practice. His life philosophy has been to enjoy the richness of life’s many experiences, and this permeates all his endeavors. Dr. Moray moved to Chapel Hill in 1979, entering a Ph.D. program in neurobiology. He later completed dental training at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Dentistry and spent one year in a hospital dental residency in Hampton, Virginia. Dr. Moray taught at the VCU/MCV School of Dentistry and managed the hospital dental clinic at MCV Hospitals in Richmond, Virginia from 1991 to 1994. Following graduation from his orthodontic residency at UNC in 1997, Dr. Moray opened our first office at Preston Corners. The Happy Tooth has grown tremendously under his guidance and our team of dental professionals now serves ten communities throughout North Carolina.
Dr. Robert Nay – Chapel Hill
Dr. Robert B. Nay, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, attended Washington & Jefferson College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a minor in Biology, while also playing varsity baseball. He furthered his education at the University of Pittsburgh, receiving his D.D.M. in 2001. During his training, he was awarded Dean’s Scholarship, as well as a Health Professions Scholarship from the United States Army. Graduating in the top of his class, Dr. Nay then stayed at Pittsburgh to complete his post-doctorate certification in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics in 2004. Upon completion of his education, Dr. Nay fulfilled his military obligation as a Major in the Army from 2004 until 2007, providing orthodontic treatment to both soldiers and their family members in Stuttgart, Germany. Afterward, Dr. Nay practiced two years in south central Pennsylvania before moving to the Raleigh area in 2009. He and his wife, Lisa, now call The Triangle home and have three children – Von, Sullivan, and Jelena.
Dr. Richard Beane, Jr. – Chapel Hill
Dr. Richard Beane, Jr. has been a Clinical Professor in the Department of Orthodontics at the UNC School of Dentistry for over 30 years. He received his D.D.S. from Howard University in 1967 and obtained a Certificate in Orthodontics from University of Rochester, Eastman Institute. After several years with Howard University as an orthodontic faculty member, Dr. Beane moved to North Carolina in 1976, entered private practice in Durham and at the same time, joined the faculty at UNC School of Dentistry’s Department of Orthodontics. He stayed with UNC full time until retirement in 2007, but continues to serve as an adjunct faculty member. Dr. Beane is loved at The Happy Tooth Orthodontic Office of Chapel Hill! His current interests include traveling with his beautiful wife, Phyllis, and spending time with his family, including eight grandchildren. In his leisure time, he also enjoys playing golf.
Dr. James Hermann – Raleigh
Originally from Boston, Dr. James Hermann received a BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Rochester. He then received his DMD from Boston University. Dr. Hermann first became interested in orthodontics when he had treatment as a student and then went on to complete his residency at BU. He practiced in Rochester, New York for thirty years where he developed a reputation for clinical excellence and personalized care. Dr. Hermann and his wife recently relocated to North Carolina to be closer to their two grown daughters. In his spare time, he loves to travel. He has a passion for history and has even participated in an archaeology project in Bermuda!
Dr. Rick Uhlir – Durham
Dr. Uhlir has been in the Triangle area since 1996 and obtained his DDS degree and Master of Science in Orthodontics from UNC. He also has a Bachelors of Science degree in Applied Sciences and a Master of Science Degree in Biomedical Engineering, both completed at UNC. Dr. Uhlir is married and has two children, a one-year-old son and a three-year-old daughter. When not at the office he enjoys golf, hiking, watching ACC sports (of course!), and spending time with his family and friends.
Dr. Frank Rudey – Wake Forest
Dr. Rudey joins us with 17 years of experience in private orthodontic practice. Dr. Rudey graduated from the University of Washington, Seattle as a Doctor of Dental Surgery with Honors. He was a NIH/NIDR Hatton Award finalist and received a four-year NIH-funded Dentist Scientist fellowship award. Dr. Rudey attended UNC Chapel Hill, where he earned his M.S. in Genetics and Molecular Biology and Graduate Orthodontic Residency Certicate. Dr. Rudey owned a busy private practice in South Seattle with two locations. He was recognized by dental peers in Seattle Magazine’s 2006 Top Dentists edition and was the only orthodontist recognized that year in the South Seattle region! Dr. Rudey is excited for his homecoming to North Carolina and looks forward to working with families in Wake Forest.
Dr. Christina Quarterman – Mount Airy
Dr. Christina Quarterman is originally from Daytona Beach, Fl. She grew up in the office of her mother, Dr. Robbin Quarterman, who has been a general dentist in Daytona Beach for over 30 years. It was during this time that she discovered her passion for dentistry and people. Dr. Quarterman attended Florida State University where she majored in Real Estate and Small Business Management. She completed her dental training at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. While at Meharry she served as Student Government Executive Vice President, as well as Senior Class President.
After dental school she went on to complete residency at Howard University in Washington, DC, where she obtained a Certificate in Orthodontics. During her tenure at Howard, Dr. Quarterman completed a mission trip to Nairobi, Kenya, where she and friends helped to build a library at one of the local schools. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, playing tennis and cheering on the Florida State Seminoles. Dr. Quarterman is excited about being in Mt. Airy and can’t wait to meet all of you!
Dr. Christopher Ruth – Sanford
Dr. Ruth attended the University of North Carolina at Charlotte for his undergrad, earning a BA in chemistry with a minor in biology. It was during this time that he developed a love for applied sciences and helping people achieve overall health. Dr. Ruth moved to Richmond upon graduation and joined the dental program at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. Following dental school, he began working towards his orthodontic certification at Saint Louis University Center for Advanced Dental Education in Missouri. Dr. Ruth is passionate about giving back to the community. He has generously donated his time over the years, providing dental care for at-risk youth and families who lack finances for routine dental care.
Dr. Nelson Ruiz – Cary
Dr. Ruiz received his undergraduate degree as an honor student in Biology from the University of Puerto Rico. Following his undergraduate studies, he pursued his DMD at the University of Puerto Rico – Medical Science Campus. Dr. Ruiz led the Dental Student Council as President and finished in the top 10% of his class. He continued on with a General Practice Residency at Tufts University, an Orthodontics Research Fellowship at the University of Connecticut, and earned his Certificate in Orthodontics from Jacksonville University. As an active member of The American Association of Orthodontics, Dr. Ruiz stays committed in keeping with the latest philosophies and techniques of the Orthodontics specialty.
Dr. Mark T. Moore – Greensboro
Dr. Mark T. Moore was born and raised in Hickory, North Carolina. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and received a Zoology degree. In 1986, Dr. Moore completed his dental training (DDS) at The UNC School of Dentistry. Following graduation from his Orthodontic Residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Hospital in 1989, he opened an office in the NC Triad area and has practiced for over 25 years. Dr. Moore and his wife, Jill have two boys and together they enjoy scouting, fishing, hiking and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Gisela Borget – Burgaw
Dr. Gisela Borget was born in Jalisco, Mexico. She grew up in Utah. She attended the University of Utah for her undergraduate studies, and then received her D.D.S. from the UNC School of Dentistry in Chapel Hill. After dental school, she went on to complete an orthodontic residency and earn a Master of Science at the University of Iowa. Dr. Borget is married and has two kids, a 4-year-old son and a 1-month-old daughter. When not practicing orthodontics, she enjoys reading, running, and spending time with her family and friends. Dr. Borget speaks Spanish fluently and is very excited to work with families in the Burgaw area!.
Dr. Renate Soltmann – Roanoke Rapids
Dr. Soltmann, a native of Germany, has lived in the Triangle area since 1979. After graduating with degrees in chemistry and microbiology, she received her DDS degree from the UNC School of Dentistry. Upon completion of her orthodontic residency from the UNC School of Dentistry, she joined the faculty at UNC Department of Orthodontics for two years. She has been treating patients in Raleigh since 1991 in her own private practice. Concurrently, Dr. Soltmann has also been serving as adjunct faculty in the UNC Department of Orthodontics, where her main focus is the orthodontic treatment and rehabilitation of patients with cleft lip and palate.
Dr. Soltmann is an award winning quilter. When she doesn’t sit at her sewing machine she loves to read and participate in citizen science projects. She has two adult sons, both of whom inherited her interest in science, and are aerospace engineers. Dr. Soltmann is excited about being in Roanoke Rapids and is looking forward to meeting everyone.
